One of the most important developments in the SUSVARA is the Stealth Magnets system, which applies a completely new approach to the operation of planar magnetic headphones. The purpose of the specially shaped magnets is to remain as acoustically unobtrusive as possible in the path of the sound waves, thereby reducing reflections and interference caused by diffraction.

In conventional planar magnetic drivers, the magnets inevitably affect the propagation of the sound waves produced by the diaphragm. The SUSVARA’s special magnet geometry significantly reduces this issue, allowing sound waves to pass through the magnet system with less distortion. The result is a more natural sound with cleaner details and more accurate spatial imaging.

HIFIMAN has been developing its proprietary nanometer-thick diaphragm technology for years, and with the SUSVARA, this technology has reached a new level. Manufacturing and integrating such extremely thin diaphragms is a complex process, yet it offers significant advantages in terms of speed, detail retrieval and reduced distortion.

The diaphragm is less than one micrometer thick while offering exceptionally high tensile strength. Its low mass enables faster response, resulting in more accurate transient reproduction. Used together with Stealth Magnets technology, the system is capable of both low distortion and exceptional dynamics. Carrying forward the legacy of the HE6, the diaphragm’s conductive traces are gold-plated, which plays an important role in both conductivity and long-term stability.

In an open-back headphone, physical protection of the driver is essential, yet the protective grille itself can also affect the propagation of sound waves. For this reason, HIFIMAN developed a completely new grille structure for the SUSVARA.

The Window Shade system has been optimized so that secondary reflections created by the grille do not cause unwanted resonances or interference.

The structure provides mechanical protection for the extremely sensitive diaphragm while exerting minimal acoustic influence on the sound. As a result, spatial presentation, airiness and fine detail can appear more naturally.

The SUSVARA represents precision craftsmanship in every detail. The CNC-machined metal headband is hand-polished, providing high rigidity, durability and an elegant appearance at the same time.

The height of the headband is continuously adjustable, allowing the headphones to provide the most comfortable fit possible for any listener. The design aims for even weight distribution and a stable fit even during longer listening sessions.

The SUSVARA’s factory cable combines single-crystal copper and single-crystal silver conductors. The materials used and their proportions are designed to support low-resistance signal transmission as well as suitable mechanical durability.

The cables are replaceable, and the left and right channels are clearly marked both on the connectors and on the inside of the headband. The connector placement is ergonomically designed, allowing the cable to be routed naturally.

The SUSVARA’s asymmetrically shaped ear pads follow the natural shape of the ear, distributing the headphone’s weight more evenly. The angled design not only enhances comfort but also contributes to proper acoustic coupling.

The soft padding ensures comfortable wear even during longer listening sessions while enclosing the ear securely. The carefully developed shape reduces the likelihood of pressure points, keeping the headphones comfortable during extended use.

The SUSVARA is a low-sensitivity planar headphone, so a high-power, high-quality headphone amplifier is required to fully unlock its capabilities. Driving it requires significantly more power than most conventional headphones.

When used with a suitable amplifier, the driver is capable of delivering high dynamic headroom, excellent control and extremely low distortion.

Every element of the SUSVARA’s construction aims to minimize acoustic interference. The Stealth Magnets system, nanometer-thick diaphragm and optimized open-back design together enable fast transient behavior, low distortion and outstanding detail retrieval.

A detailed subjective description of the sound character can be evaluated through listening, while the technical characteristics of the construction are designed to achieve natural timbre, precise timing, high resolution and exceptional spatial imaging.

The operation of planar drivers may gradually stabilize during the initial period of use. In the case of the SUSVARA, optimal operating condition is reached after approximately 150 hours of use.

A microfiber cloth is recommended for cleaning the headphones. They should be stored in a dry, dust-free environment, protected from direct sunlight, high humidity and extreme temperatures. The use of alcohol, acetone, gasoline or other aggressive cleaning agents is not recommended.
