Hybrid driver technology with refined tuning
Grand Luna is an in-ear monitor with a hybrid planar and balanced armature driver system, expanding Campfire Audio's planar magnetic IEM line with a new earphone built around a more complex acoustic architecture. At the heart of the design is a 14 mm planar magnetic driver responsible for the low and mid frequencies, while two balanced armature transducers tuned for high frequencies handle the detail and smoothness of the upper range.
Grand Luna is more than a technical showcase: it is a distinctive, refined-sounding high-end IEM that preserves the texture and control of planar drivers, while the balanced armature units shape the high-frequency range in a finer, calmer and less fatiguing direction.
Grand Luna's driver architecture is built around a 14 mm planar magnetic unit and two high-frequency balanced armature drivers. The planar driver's role is to reproduce the low and mid frequencies with stability, speed and texture, which is especially important for precise transient response, controlled bass and a more natural midrange.
The two balanced armature drivers handle the upper frequencies. Compared with a purely planar design, this configuration can produce a smoother treble range while preserving detail retrieval and airiness. The hybrid system is therefore not merely a combination of multiple drivers, but an acoustic solution that connects the strengths of different technologies at the tuning level.
Grand Luna uses a housing with an Additive Acoustic Optical Inclusion, or AAOI, design. This is not simply an external form, but a structure with an acoustic role that also influences driver behavior and the behavior of the internal space, while its built-in spatial shaping helps refine frequency response and the coherence between the drivers.
The precisely shaped internal acoustic pathways, damping values and spatial treatment work together to define how the 14 mm planar driver behaves inside the Grand Luna housing. This is especially important in a hybrid IEM, where the different operating principles of planar and balanced armature drivers must be organized into a coherent sound image.
Grand Luna's sound character is built on the speed and texture of planar magnetic drivers, but it does not follow an analytical or sharply monitor-like direction. The IEM's frequency range covers 5 Hz - 30 kHz, supporting the complete sound image from low-frequency foundations to high-frequency detail. The tuning aims for a smooth and calm presentation with restrained detail, while the treble range does not dominate the musical picture.
The low range benefits from the controlled operation of the planar driver: the bass is built on firmness, layering and fast decay. The midrange can present a warm, textured and natural presence, while the highs integrate into the sound image clearly yet with restraint through the balanced armature units. Grand Luna's character is therefore more fluid, relaxed and suitable for long listening sessions, while preserving the resolution and dynamic sensitivity expected from an in-ear monitor.
Grand Luna's vent plays a role in regulating internal air pressure. During the operation of a planar magnetic driver, it is especially important that membrane movement remains even and that pressure inside the housing does not create unwanted resistance or distortion.
The vented air release design helps control air volume and pressure equalization. This is not only a comfort-related detail, but also an acoustically significant solution: it contributes to a more stable bass range, more natural membrane movement and a less closed-in listening experience.
Grand Luna uses a custom MMCX connector system designed by Campfire Audio. The advantage of the MMCX connection is that it enables cable replacement while preserving the earphone's compact and professional in-ear monitor design. Connector durability is especially important for a premium IEM, where cable swapping, use with different source devices and long-term reliability are all part of the product's value.
The connectors are designed for thousands of connection and disconnection cycles, so Grand Luna is prepared not only for occasional cable changes, but also for regular, flexible use.
Grand Luna comes with Campfire Audio's Time Link Cable system, which offers interchangeable modular cable terminations. The system provides 3.5 mm analog, 4.4 mm balanced and USB-C DAC connection options, allowing the earphone to be used with multiple music players, portable sources and modern digital devices.
The Time Link cable uses six conductors with a combination of high-purity copper and silver-plated copper. This design is built around low-loss signal transmission and stable channel handling while preserving the flexibility required for portable IEM use. The custom four-pin connector system allows secure and quick switching between different terminations.
Grand Luna's package also includes a compact USB-C DAC adapter built around a Cirrus Logic Master HiFi CS43131 chip. This solution does not function merely as a simple adapter, but provides digital-to-analog conversion that can offer signal quality better suited to the earphone's capabilities from a compatible phone, tablet or computer.
The DAC can handle up to 32-bit / 384 kHz PCM resolution and DSD128 and DSD256 playback. The CS43131 chip is also a low-power solution suitable for portable use, supporting direct connection with modern USB-C devices.
Grand Luna's visual character is closely connected to its technical construction. The housing is transparent on the outside and finished with vivid red internal dyeing, making the internal driver layout and acoustic design visible, so the earphone's appearance feels both technical and premium.
The lids receive hand flame treatment and a brushed surface finish, resulting in an iridescent Campfire Audio logo and a durable surface with a stainless-steel effect. The organic color variations created by heat treatment give every Grand Luna its own unique visual character, while the surface preserves the handcrafted detail associated with the brand.
Grand Luna is handcrafted in Portland, Oregon, by Campfire Audio's small production team. In this model, hand assembly is not merely an aesthetic detail, but part of the precise fitting of the housing, lid, connectors and internal acoustic elements.
The earphone's lightweight, durable and ergonomic housing also takes into account the physical comfort needed for longer listening sessions. The transparent exterior, red internal dyeing, hand-treated lid and visible internal acoustic structure together create a premium IEM character that is technical, handcrafted and visually striking at the same time.
Grand Luna's premium hybrid IEM package includes several practical accessories for more comfortable and flexible use.
To support portability, the box includes a "Blood Moon" red leather case with magnetic closure and a Breezy Bag Micro pocketed mesh storage bag, along with three sets of ear tips: foam, silicone and High & Clear traction silicone in S, M and L sizes. For maintenance, an IEM cleaning tool and microfiber cloth are also included, helping keep the earphones and accessories neatly stored and clean.
