Merak takes its name from Beta Ursae Majoris, a star in the Ursa Major constellation. The star has long been used as a reference point for locating the North Star, making its name a symbol of guidance.

Inspired by this meaning, the Merak CD player was created to become a key reference point in your audio system. It is designed to deliver more precise imaging, immersive sound and clear reproduction of every detail in your CD recordings.

The line-level and optical outputs allow the Fosi Audio Merak to connect easily to an external DAC, amplifier or active speakers. Its 3.5 mm headphone output also enables direct listening without a separate amplifier.

The included infrared remote control provides convenient input and output switching as well as track selection. The 12 V Trigger output also enables synchronised power control with compatible Fosi Audio devices such as the ZD3 and ZA3.

The precision mechanism and optimised servo system ensure accurate disc reading, stable tracking and smooth playback. Its carefully controlled operation reduces unnecessary mechanical stress on the disc and is designed to maintain consistent audio output over the long term.

Gapless playback eliminates pauses between tracks. This is particularly beneficial for live recordings, symphonic works and other continuous musical material where artificial gaps would disrupt the flow of the performance.

The Merak offers four playback modes: Play Once, Repeat One, Repeat All and Shuffle. Each mode can be selected easily using either the front-panel controls or the included remote control.

The automatic stop function immediately stops the disc from spinning when the lid is opened. This prevents the CD from continuing to rotate with the lid open and reduces mechanical stress during operation.

ESP anti-skip protection uses 60-second buffering to minimise playback interruptions caused by vibration. The system temporarily stores the audio being played, providing more stable operation during movement or external disturbances.

ESP is particularly useful when the CD player is placed on a surface exposed to vibration or used in a less controlled environment. The technology is designed to maintain more continuous playback and reliable operation without altering the audio stored on the disc.

The 3.5 mm headphone output delivers at least 210 mW per channel into a 32-ohm load. The Merak supports headphones with impedances between 16 and 300 ohms, allowing personal listening without a separate headphone amplifier.

Thanks to its compact design, the unit can be placed easily on a bedside table, desk or beside the sofa. Connecting headphones directly makes it simple to create a space-saving system for relaxed, private listening.

The Merak uses an audio architecture built around SC6137D, CS43131 and TPA6120 components. The integrated CS43131 DAC and dual TPA6120 amplifier stages deliver clean signal transmission, low distortion and sound that remains faithful to the original CD recording.

The unit supports PCM audio at up to 16-bit/96 kHz from both CDs and USB drives. During CD playback, the line-level output delivers a signal-to-noise ratio of 124 dB, THD+N of 0.0009% and a dynamic range of 124 dB.

The one-touch CD ripping function saves the original CD audio to a connected USB drive as 16-bit/44.1 kHz WAV files without any loss of quality. This allows disc contents to be converted into convenient digital files without requiring an additional device.

The USB-A input supports USB drives with capacities of up to 128 GB and also enables direct music playback. The Merak can play MP3, WAV, FLAC, AAC, APE and WMA files from a USB drive.
