The Kunlun's amplifier circuit uses eight high-performance GaN FETs in its output stage, complemented by a driver stage comprising 16 transistors per channel. The design therefore forms a large discrete amplifier system with 40 transistors in total. Compared with architectures based on conventional operational amplifiers, this provides higher current output capability and substantial dynamic headroom.

GaN FETs can provide electron mobility of up to 2000 cm²/Vs, exceeding that of conventional MOSFETs and silicon transistors. At high frequencies, they offer higher electron velocity and lower conduction losses. Their significantly lower parasitic Miller charge compared with power MOSFETs with the same Rds(on) value enables faster operation, which in audio amplification results in more precise transient response, improved dynamic behavior, and firmer control.

The 4.4 mm and XLR balanced headphone outputs can deliver up to 7400 mW per channel at a 32-ohm load. The maximum output voltage of 16 Vrms and high current output capability provide sufficient headroom for driving high-impedance, low-sensitivity full-size headphones as well.

The 6.35 mm unbalanced output delivers 1900 mW per channel at 32 ohms, with an output impedance of just 0.12 ohms. This output can also be suitable for use with low-impedance, more sensitive earphones. The three-position hardware gain control allows the Kunlun to be matched to the sensitivity of the headphones being used, helping to keep noise and distortion at a low level.

Instead of a switching solution, the Kunlun uses a linear power supply and high-quality voltage regulators. The design provides consistent power delivery and a low noise floor, while creating a stable and quiet operating environment for the entire analog signal path. This supports the clear reproduction of fine musical details and microdynamic information.

Alongside the GaN FETs, the internal circuit incorporates numerous audiophile-grade electrolytic and film capacitors. These carefully selected components support stable power delivery and low distortion; the amplifier is designed to deliver a clean, detailed, warm, and engaging sound.

Headphone protection is provided by a built-in DC protection circuit. If the system detects an abnormal DC component, it immediately cuts off the output power, helping to protect the connected earphones or headphones.

The Kunlun uses a four-channel Texas Instruments volume control circuit. Its purpose is to maintain consistent left-right channel tracking at different volume levels, while allowing the volume to be adjusted linearly and precisely.

Control is provided by an analog potentiometer, allowing the volume to be adjusted with a traditional rotary knob and direct tactile feedback. The three-position gain switch adjusts the hardware amplification to the sensitivity of the headphones. The volume control and gain selector both provide straightforward, direct operation.

The Kunlun uses a purely analog design, so no drivers, apps, or complex configuration are required. Once the source device and headphones are connected, the amplifier is ready to use.

The unit provides XLR and 4.4 mm balanced inputs, as well as an RCA unbalanced input, allowing it to connect to a wide range of analog sources. For headphones, XLR and 4.4 mm balanced outputs and a 6.35 mm unbalanced output are available. This selection of connections supports earphones and headphones with different cable configurations.

The Kunlun's chassis is made from an aluminum alloy produced using precision CNC machining. Its anodized surface provides a hard, scratch-resistant exterior and a clean metallic appearance, while the robust housing offers suitable mechanical protection for the internal components.

The design of the upper panel helps dissipate heat. Together with the optimized internal layout, this supports stable and efficient operation under heavy loads, reducing the possibility of excessive heat affecting the amplifier's operation or sound.
