The ER2XR "eXtended Response" tuned model is designed to emphasize the bass, adding 1-2 dB to the mid-bass and 3-4 dB to the deep bass. The other frequencies are virtually identical to the ER2SE.

The ER2 XR offers Etymotic's renowned isolation with various eartips, providing 35dB+ noise reduction, allowing you to hear all the details buried in the mix without needing to boost the volume to counteract ambient noise. The ER2XR's balanced frequency response makes it a perfect choice for professional experts and audiophiles. For the earphone to be 100% accurate, it must produce exactly the same sound on the eardrum as the original performance did in a live recording. To achieve this, the acoustic properties of the ear must be considered. The ear's acoustic resonance and horn effect map the incoming audio signal (2700 Hz) with high-frequency amplification, reproducing the sound on the eardrum as heard during normal hearing.
