In addition to disc playback, the custom CD mechanism and servo system support track selection, multiple playback modes, and display of the current track time and total disc time.

The XMOS XU316 USB interface offers UAC 1.0 and UAC 2.0 operation with support for PCM up to 768 kHz and DSD512. Built around the Qualcomm QCC5181 platform, the Bluetooth 5.4 connection supports Snapdragon Sound, aptX Adaptive, aptX Lossless, aptX HD, aptX, LDAC, AAC and SBC with compatible sources.

The delta-sigma stage uses two ES9069Q DAC chips, each operating in mono mode. The fully differential decoding architecture is designed to maximize channel separation and conversion performance.

The discrete R-2R section is built from more than 170 high-precision resistors with low temperature coefficients. The left and right channels use separate power supplies, while OS and NOS operation enables oversampled or non-oversampled conversion.

The Evo Era uses a high-capacity FPGA with 100,000 logic elements to process I2S audio signals. The programmable logic adapts signals from the different digital sources to the selected decoding architecture.

The FPGA also plays a role in the precision calibration of the R-2R decoding section. By coordinating the high-precision resistor network with digital signal processing, the system supports consistent operation across both channels.

The selectable analog sound signatures allow the same recording to be heard with different tonal characteristics and presentation styles. The available settings include a fully transistor-based signal path and hybrid signal paths using Nutube 6P1 vacuum tubes, allowing the sound to be tailored to the connected headphones, the music or personal preference.

TR uses a fully transistor-based analog signal path. VELVET is a hybrid mode tuned for a warmer presentation and richer midrange, while LUMINA aims for greater transparency, clarity and articulation. All three sound signatures can be used with delta-sigma decoding and with the discrete R-2R stage operating in OS or NOS mode.

The headphone amplifier offers H, M and L hardware gain levels together with TURBO, P+ and P power modes, allowing it to be matched to the sensitivity and impedance of the connected headphones. Users can also choose between Class A and Class AB operation.

Maximum battery-powered output through the 4.4 mm balanced connection is 1240 mW into 16 Ω and 1050 mW into 32 Ω. With a PD-compatible adapter and DC INPUT mode, these figures increase to 1700 mW and 1500 mW respectively.

The Evo Era provides 3.5 mm single-ended and 4.4 mm balanced headphone outputs, together with 3.5 mm and 4.4 mm line outputs. With intelligent connection detection, the headphone output takes priority over the line output, while the most recently connected output takes priority when multiple connections are present.

The optical and coaxial S/PDIF outputs allow an external DAC or digital audio system to be connected. The digital output supports PCM up to 192 kHz and DSD64.

The volume control combines the traditional, direct operating feel of an ALPS potentiometer with the precision of an NJW1195A electronic volume-control IC. An internal A/D converter tracks the position of the control knob and adjusts the volume electronically.

This design preserves the natural feel of a rotary volume control while reducing differences between the left and right channels at very low listening levels. The 2.2-inch TFT display shows the source, playback status, volume, menus and system messages.

When CD is selected as the source and a compatible USB drive is connected, the Evo Era can save the contents of the disc directly to the USB drive as lossless WAV files. CD playback is unavailable while ripping is in progress.

MCU firmware updates can also be started from the menu. The update file, USB drive format and exact procedure must always be selected according to the instructions supplied with the relevant firmware version.

The built-in 3.87 V, 10,000 mAh battery provides approximately 9-14 hours of CD playback depending on the operating configuration. The minimum 9-hour figure applies when using the 4.4 mm output in hybrid mode, while the maximum 14-hour figure applies when using the 3.5 mm output in TR mode.

A 9 V / 2 A PD fast charger replenishes the battery in approximately 3.5 hours, while charging with a standard 5 V / 2 A power supply takes approximately 5 hours. In DC INPUT mode, a compatible adapter powers the device directly, charges the battery simultaneously and automatically activates DC TURBO mode.

The 1025-gram chassis is made from 6063 aluminum with an anodized surface treated using 200-grit glass-bead microblasting. The function markings are applied using deep engraving and laser etching.

Each unit features a stainless-steel rear plate carrying its own unique serial number. The 29 mm chassis height excludes the 2 mm feet and the selector knob, which projects 4 mm from the enclosure.
