final officially treats the D and DX models as separate series. The D Series brings together planar magnetic headphones based on the manufacturer's proprietary AFDS damping system, including the D7000, D8000 and D8000 DC variants. With open-back construction, large diaphragm areas and an expansive sense of space, these models represent final's reference-level planar magnetic direction.

The DX Series uses dynamic drivers and is built around freedom of construction. The range includes closed-back CL models as well as ultra-open solutions. The DX10000 CL is the technical pinnacle of this platform. It is not simply a closed-back counterpart to the D8000 DC, but the result of a separate development path, with a genuine diamond dome and a complete driver system designed for a sealed acoustic chamber.

A new reference level for closed-back headphones

Closed-back headphones offer strong isolation, decisive sound pressure and a physically direct presentation, but the sealed space behind the diaphragm can easily cause reflections, resonances and box-like coloration. Rather than attempting to conceal these effects through corrective frequency tuning, the DX10000 CL addresses their mechanical and acoustic causes.

The driver, magnetic circuit, internal damping, rigid housing and slightly air-permeable earpad work together to control the pressure generated inside the sealed chamber. The result preserves the energy and isolation of a closed-back design while delivering a more natural tonality, greater layering and more accurate time-domain behavior.

Diamond is an exceptional diaphragm material due to its extraordinary hardness and speed of sound. Its high bending rigidity reduces surface deformation, while its favorable internal damping limits ringing that remains after the signal stops. This enables cleaner attacks, faster decay and lower mechanical distortion.

The central dome is produced by CVD, or chemical vapor deposition. Diamond is crystallized on a silicon substrate, after which the silicon is completely removed. The finished diaphragm section is therefore a genuine, self-supporting diamond structure rather than a diamond-like coating applied to a conventional substrate.

Every important element of the 40 mm driver is matched to the mass, rigidity and movement of the diamond dome. The special polyurethane surround is lightweight, elastic and extensible at the same time, while reducing its own resonances and the lateral rocking of the dome more effectively than conventional materials.

The high flux density of the N55 neodymium magnet rapidly accelerates and brakes the moving system. The aluminum shorting ring reduces changes in voice-coil inductance, stabilizes the magnetic field and lowers nonlinear distortion, particularly during high-excursion bass reproduction.

Polyimide bobbin and air wiring that reduces asymmetry

The rigid yet lightweight polyimide bobbin helps the voice coil transfer driving force to the diaphragm without deformation. This allows the coil to guide the dome more accurately even at high excursion, improving transient response and control during powerful musical events.

The two voice-coil lead wires do not touch the diaphragm surround, but run freely and directly to the terminals. This eliminates the additional mass and mechanical load that would otherwise be concentrated on one side of the surround. The special high-strength aluminum-alloy wire combines low mass with resistance to flexural fatigue.

The diaphragm also radiates sound rearward, which can reflect from the internal surfaces of the driver and return with a delay. Precisely shaped sound-absorbing material positioned behind the diamond dome reduces these returning waves and the resonances generated inside the driver.

The damping, self-supporting dome, aluminum shorting ring and N55 magnet operate in coordination. Rather than emphasizing a single frequency range, the system aims to follow the input information accurately from the initial attack through to the decay.

In closed-back headphones, the volume of air behind the driver and the airtightness of the housing directly affect bass, resonance and decay. Even slight deformation or a microscopic gap can alter the internal pressure conditions, which means the ear cup is not merely a cover but a defining part of the acoustic system.

The ear cup is made from an aluminum-magnesium alloy using 5-axis CNC machining. Internal material that is not required for rigidity is removed, and the resulting cavities are filled with acoustic control material. This solution reduces weight, preserves structural rigidity and prevents uncontrolled internal echoes at the same time.

Twelve through-bolts and adhesive-free construction

Twelve through-bolts fasten the entire ear cup together from the outer housing to the front plate that holds the earpad. The uniform clamping force increases mechanical rigidity, secures the acoustic seal and consistently maintains the intended airtightness.

Eliminating adhesive allows the headphones to be professionally disassembled and reassembled. Wear components such as the earpads can be replaced by a service center, supporting long-term ownership. The user, however, should not disassemble the bolted housing.

The earpad is an active part of the tuning. A completely airtight pad can raise low-frequency sound pressure excessively, which other designs often counteract by boosting the high frequencies. Instead, the DX10000 CL allows a very small and precisely controlled amount of air to pass through.

The ultrafine, dense fiber structure of Ultrasuede enables this pressure equalization while maintaining the acoustic seal. The selected internal foam precisely defines the volume and shape of the pad, while distributing pressure on the head comfortably during extended listening sessions.
