The SHANLING M7T Master is an open Android 13 portable music player that combines dual AKM AK4498EX and AK4191 digital-to-analogue conversion with two JAN6418 miniature tubes and a separate transistor amplification path. Its 3.5mm and 4.4mm headphone outputs, three gain settings, two-way Bluetooth and Wi-Fi streaming are brought together in a single reference-class aluminium device.

WHY MASTER?

The M7T Master is not a successor in a new form factor, but a further refined version of the original M7T. Shanling revisited power-supply control, selected capacitors and the fine tuning of the AK4498EX DAC system, then voiced the result for a fuller presentation that still retains a neutral focus.

The Master version employs single-crystal copper conductors in its internal audio signal path, adds three gain settings and raises the specified maximum balanced output to 1020 mW at 32 ohms. Its engraved M emblem and frosted-glass top panel clearly distinguish the M7T Master from the previous version.

SHANLING M7T Master refinements compared with the previous M7T — The M7T Master retains the proven dimensions, platform and key functions of the original M7T while advancing its tuning and power reserve.

SHANLING M7T Master dual AKM AK4498EX DACs and AK4191 modulator — The AK4191 delta-sigma modulator works with two AK4498EX digital-to-analogue converters in a balanced audio architecture.

DUAL AKM DIGITAL-TO-ANALOGUE CONVERSION WITH SHANLING REFERENCE TUNING

At the centre of the M7T Master DAC system are the AKM AK4191 modulator and two AK4498EX converters. The dual DACs operate in a differential configuration, which Shanling develops further through the reference-tuning approach established with the earlier M7.

For local playback, the player handles PCM files up to 32-bit/768kHz and native DSD1024. In USB DAC mode, support extends to PCM 384kHz/32-bit and DSD256. Its in-house FPGA solution, Japanese KDS active oscillators at 90.3168MHz and 98.304MHz, and Shanling's fourth-generation algorithm are designed for accurate digital timing.

TWO JAN6418 TUBES, TWO SELECTABLE MUSICAL APPROACHES

The two low-voltage JAN6418 tubes are mounted in a dedicated anti-shock suspension intended to reduce microphonics during portable use. They are not permanently active: they form part of the user-selectable tube sound mode and automatically switch off after 10 minutes of inactivity.

In tube mode, the M7T Master is voiced by the manufacturer for a warmer timbre and softer edges. In transistor mode, the traditional op-amp-based amplification path focuses on clarity and direct detail retrieval. The installed tubes have an estimated operating life of 5,000 hours.

AMPLIFICATION FROM IEMS TO LARGER HEADPHONES

The amplification section uses an OP+BUF architecture built around two OPA2211, two MUSES8920 and four BUF634A components. The CPAF, Constant Phase in All Frequency, low-pass filter combines OPA2211 op-amps with Panasonic tantalum capacitors, while the tube stage adds Panasonic and Nichicon components.

In transistor mode, the 3.5mm output delivers up to 260mW and the 4.4mm balanced output up to 1020mW at 32 ohms on high gain. In tube mode, the corresponding specified figures are 220mW and 990mW. Output impedance is 0.4 ohms for the 3.5mm output and 0.8 ohms for the 4.4mm output.

The M7T Master is machined from a single aluminium block with rounded edges and more ergonomic side contours. Measuring 129 × 77.5 × 21mm and weighing 319.8g, it combines front hardware controls and a volume wheel with a 5-inch Sharp touchscreen at 1080 × 1920 resolution.

The 441ppi display provides clear presentation of album artwork and streaming apps. The player is available in Galaxy Grey, Midnight Blue and Smooth Mocha. In addition to its headphone function, the 3.5mm socket can be used as a bit-perfect coaxial SPDIF output with a suitable digital coaxial cable, up to PCM 192kHz.

OPEN ANDROID 13, LOCAL LIBRARY AND STREAMING

The open Android 13 system allows music-player and streaming apps to be installed directly. Shanling AGLO, Android Global Lossless Output, is designed to pass audio data from compatible applications to the audio architecture without unnecessary system resampling.

The eight-core Snapdragon 665 processor, 6GB LPDDR4X memory and 128GB UFS 2.1 storage provide a foundation for responsive Android app performance. The MicroSD slot supports cards up to 2TB, allowing a large high-resolution local music library to remain on the device.

TWO-WAY BLUETOOTH AND MULTIPLE DIGITAL ROLES

In Bluetooth transmitter mode, the M7T Master can send its local or streamed music to wireless headphones or speakers. Supported transmitter codecs include LDAC, aptX, AAC and SBC; the manufacturer's presentation also lists aptX HD support.

In Bluetooth receiver mode, a phone or tablet can send audio wirelessly to the M7T Master, which then serves as a portable Bluetooth DAC and headphone amplifier. Receiver mode supports LDAC and SBC. USB DAC mode also allows connection to a computer or compatible mobile device.

7000MAH BATTERY WITH FAST CHARGING

According to the manufacturer's measurements, the 7000mAh battery provides up to 14.5 hours of playback from the 3.5mm output or 12.5 hours from the 4.4mm output on one charge. In Bluetooth transmitter mode with LDAC Adaptive, the specified operating time can reach up to 66 hours.

The M7T Master supports up to 18W fast charging through its USB-C port with QC3.0 and PD2.0 standards. Actual battery life depends on the selected output, volume, network connection, applications and the type of files being played.
