Reference-tuned Android portable player with two next-generation AKM AK4498EX DACs, an AK4191 delta-sigma modulator and a dual JAN6418 tube stage. The M7T combines Android 13, solid-state and tube sound modes, a high-power balanced output, and a complete range of wired and wireless playback options in a single device.
The M7T continues the reference-focused direction of the original Shanling M7, while elevating the platform to a new generation. Its design combines a rigid unibody chassis machined from a single block of aluminum, a 5-inch Full HD Sharp display, and open Android 13 with a dedicated audio architecture engineered for both precision and flexible sound character.
At the heart of the player are two AKM AK4498EX DACs working with the AK4191 modulator, complemented by a carefully optimized op-amp and buffer amplifier stage. The two JAN6418 tubes provide a second, selectable analog sound character, while the 4.4 mm balanced output delivers up to 980 mW of power into a 32 Ω load in transistor mode.
Shanling’s M series ranges from compact portable players to streaming models running open Android, all the way up to reference-class devices. The M7T sits in the upper reference segment, combining Android 13 with Shanling’s new AKM conversion platform and a choice of tube or solid-state amplification.
The M7T further develops Shanling’s latest chassis concept with more gently curved edges and a more ergonomic shape. The body is made from a single block of aluminum, ensuring high rigidity, while the anodized surface provides a clean and uniform appearance.
The three color variants give the same hardware different visual characters: Galaxy Grey has a technical and understated appearance, Midnight Blue offers a deeper, more modern tone, while Smooth Mocha gives the player a warmer and more distinctive look.
Shanling and AKM have a long history of collaboration, and the M7T uses one of AKM's latest high-end conversion platforms to carry forward the reference sound of the M7 family. The two AK4498EX DACs work with a dedicated AK4191 delta-sigma modulator, separating the digital and analog conversion tasks.
For local playback, the system supports resolutions up to PCM 768 kHz / 32-bit and DSD1024. Shanling has tuned the platform for a neutral, energetic, and highly resolving sound, while the optional tube stage provides a softer, warmer sound character.
The M7T brings Shanling’s long-standing experience with tube CD players and amplifiers into a portable reference player. The two low-voltage JAN6418 tubes are housed in a unique vibration-damped structure that reduces microphonic effects, while keeping power consumption suitable for portable use.
Tube mode provides a warmer tone, softens the edges of the sound, and delivers a more refined character. Transistor mode eliminates the coloration of tubes and focuses on clarity, speed, and accurate reproduction of details. The estimated lifespan of the tubes is around 5000 hours, and they switch off automatically after 10 minutes of inactivity.
The analog stage combines Shanling’s proven op-amp and buffer architecture with component-level tuning. Two OPA2211 and Panasonic tantalum capacitors form the CPAF low-pass filter, while the main amplifier uses two MUSES8920 and four BUF634A buffers.
The tube section has its own dedicated filter network with Panasonic tantalum and Nichicon capacitors, while the transistor amplifier is supported by selected Silmic II capacitors. The custom FPGA solution uses enhanced 90.3168 MHz and 98.304 MHz KDS active crystal oscillators to help reduce jitter and ensure precise digital timing.
The M7T offers precise digital volume control, two gain levels, and separate 3.5 mm single-ended and 4.4 mm balanced connections. The balanced transistor output can deliver 980 mW of power into 32 Ω, while in tube mode up to 910 mW is available into the same load.
The 3.5 mm connector can also be used as an SPDIF coaxial digital output, allowing the M7T to function as a bit-perfect digital transport connected to an external DAC. The separate 3.5 mm and 4.4 mm line-out modes make integration with desktop amplifiers and active audio systems simple.
The M7T features both the Japan Audio Society Hi-Res Audio and Hi-Res Audio Wireless certifications. These certifications complement a playback platform designed for high-resolution local files, modern streaming services and high-quality wireless music listening.
For local playback, it supports up to PCM 768 kHz / 32-bit and DSD1024. Used as a USB DAC, the M7T supports resolutions up to PCM 384 kHz / 32-bit and DSD256, so the same audio hardware can be used in both portable and computer-based systems.
The Android 13 system ensures compatibility with modern music and streaming apps, while preserving the flexibility of a fully open Android environment. Apps can be installed directly, allowing the player to function as a standalone portable streaming and local music playback platform.
Shanling’s Android Global Lossless Output (AGLO) system bypasses the traditional Android resampling path to deliver true hi-fi audio processing. Prime Mode can further simplify the user interface when a strictly dedicated music playback experience is desired.
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 platform provides sufficient computing power for modern Android applications and a fast user interface. The octa-core processor, 11 nm architecture and Adreno 610 GPU offer a mature foundation for audio-focused Android operation.
The system is paired with 6 GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 128 GB of UFS 2.1 internal storage. The MicroSD card slot supports up to 2 TB of capacity, providing ample space for apps, offline streaming content, and large local music libraries.
The M7T works both as a Bluetooth transmitter and as a high-quality Bluetooth DAC and headphone amplifier. It can send audio to wireless headphones or speakers, or receive a Bluetooth signal from a phone or tablet, which it then processes using its own DAC and amplifier stages.
For Bluetooth transmission, LDAC, aptX, AAC and SBC are supported, and for reception LDAC and SBC are supported. Thanks to its bidirectional implementation, the M7T can be used both as a standalone player and as part of a larger wireless system.
The Qualcomm WCN3980 wireless module offers 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi-Fi connectivity with MIMO support. The system ensures stable access to streaming apps, online libraries and network audio services within the open Android environment.
The combination of fast Wi-Fi, Android 13, and large internal storage turns the M7T into a fully-fledged portable streaming platform, while still retaining local MicroSD playback and USB-based audio features.
The 5.0-inch Sharp display offers a resolution of 1080 × 1920 and a pixel density of approximately 441 PPI. Album covers, streaming apps and Android menus are displayed with exceptional sharpness and richly detailed colors.
Despite the large display, the device body remains optimized for portable use. The curved sides and carefully designed edges improve grip, while the physical controls provide direct access to the most important playback functions.
The high-performance DAC, tube stage, and amplifier require substantial power reserves, so the M7T uses a 7000 mAh battery. This enables long local playback, while keeping the device portable and completely self-sufficient for travel use.
Shanling specifies up to 14.5 hours of battery life from the 3.5 mm single-ended output and up to 12.5 hours from the 4.4 mm balanced output. When transmitting via Bluetooth, battery life can reach up to 66 hours, while 18 W fast charging with QC3.0 and PD2.0 support reduces charging time.
The M7T combines the independence of a dedicated digital audio player with the flexibility of a modern Android device. Local files, streaming apps, Bluetooth reception, USB DAC mode and digital transport functions all use the same audio-focused hardware platform.
The dual audio architecture turns the player into a more flexible music listening platform instead of a fixed-character source. The tube and transistor modes allow you to adjust the analog sound without having to change headphones, apps, or digital sources.
