Design, Build, and Connectivity
The B200 features a robust, minimalist, fully aluminum chassis that provides both an elegant appearance and a resonance-free foundation for the internal electronics. The compact dimensions (approx. 220 × 92 × 185 mm) belie its substantial weight due to the large toroidal transformer and extensive cooling, ensuring stable power delivery and reliable long-term operation.
The front panel includes the power switch, input selector buttons, and LED indicators for input status, making daily operation simple and intuitive. At the rear are three balanced XLR / 6.35 mm TRS combo inputs, speaker terminals, a two-position gain switch, a 12 V trigger input, and the DC power connector. The high-quality connectors and logical layout facilitate easy integration into systems, whether simple hi-fi chains or more complex multi-source setups.
NFCA Discrete Amplification and Sound Character
At the heart of the B200 is TOPPING's newly developed discrete NFCA (Nested Feedback Composite Amplifier) power stage, optimized for ultra-low distortion and noise. This topology delivers linear, neutral performance across and beyond the audible frequency range, with tight bass, clear midrange, and detailed highs while preserving musical dynamics.
Specifications indicate total harmonic distortion plus noise (THD+N) remains extremely low at 0.00008% (4 Ω) and below 0.000075% (8 Ω) at 5 W, approaching measurement limits for essentially distortion-free human hearing. The 145 dB signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and dynamic range ensure quiet passages and large dynamic swings emerge cleanly without compression.
Frequency response is ±2 dB from 20 Hz–40 kHz and ±0.4 dB up to 100 kHz, providing extended beyond-audible performance ideal for high-resolution content and phase-coherent imaging.
Power Output, Gain Settings, and Load Handling
As a single-channel (mono) power amp, the B200 delivers 200 W nominal output at both 4 Ω and 8 Ω loads under 1% THD+N, with up to 240 W at 8 Ω (under 10% THD). This power suffices for most floorstanding and bookshelf speakers, including lower-sensitivity, demanding loads.
Gain is adjustable in two stages: low (11.6 dB) for high-output DACs, preamps, or sensitive speakers, and high (22.0 dB) for greater headroom with lower-output sources. Output impedance below 5 mΩ ensures excellent load control and firm bass, even with long speaker cables.
Minimum load impedance is 4 Ω, making it suitable for most modern 4–8 Ω speakers. Output voltage peaks at 80 Vpp (4 Ω) and 110 Vpp (8 Ω), confirming ample reserves.
Stereo Systems, Integration, and Pairing with DACs/Preamps
For stereo, two B200 units are required—one per channel—reducing crosstalk, improving channel separation, and yielding a precise stereo image. The three XLR/TRS inputs allow multiple balanced sources or preamps to connect simultaneously, with input selection on the amp.
Pairing two B200s with a Topping PRE90 preamp creates a high-end, practical setup with precise volume control, remote operation, and multiple inputs. With DACs like the Topping D90 III Discrete, fully balanced XLR chains ensure optimal SNR and signal integrity.
The 12 V trigger input synchronizes power on/off with compatible devices, ideal for multi-component systems controlled by one button or remote.
Dimensions, Usability, and Placement
