The system uses convolution-based processing that simulates real spatial hearing through HRTF and room acoustics modeling. Its goal is more accurate imaging, greater soundstage depth and a more natural sense of space. The function can help make the sound feel less localized inside the head, delivering a calmer and more balanced listening experience over longer sessions.

The DX5 II also offers a simplified BS2B-based mode, ideal for those who prefer a more restrained, speaker-like presentation. This is not aggressive spatial processing, but a more subtle and natural form of channel blending that brings headphone playback closer to the experience of traditional stereo speakers.

The USB input of the DX5 II is based on the third-generation XMOS XU316 platform, providing a stable, high-bandwidth digital audio connection. Via USB, the device supports up to PCM 768 kHz / 32 bit and native DSD512 processing, making it a strong foundation for high-resolution music files and demanding desktop audio systems.

Compatibility is broad: the device can be used with Windows 10, Windows 11, macOS, Linux, iOS and Android systems. It works without a driver on most platforms, while Windows ASIO use requires installation of the Thesycon driver. This can be especially important for users working with bit-perfect playback, more advanced audio software or lower-latency playback environments.

One of the most important upgrades of the DX5 II is its high-precision 10-band parametric EQ. With PEQ, the frequency, gain and bandwidth of each band can be adjusted individually, allowing the sound to be tailored precisely to headphones, speakers, the room or personal listening preferences.

TOPPING’s own PEQ algorithm and desktop software also support the import of target curves and raw measurement curves. This allows users not only to adjust the sound by ear, but also to apply measurement-based correction. The user interface of the DX5 II is significantly more modern compared to its predecessor. The 2.0-inch full-color display can show not only basic playback information, but also selectable VU, FFT and information views. The background color can be adjusted in 9 different options, allowing the device to fit better visually into a desktop system or personal setup.

The three physical buttons and the pressable control knob provide fast operation, while button functions can also be customized. This is an important everyday advantage, as output switching, volume adjustment, menu navigation and mode selection are all available directly, without the need for a computer or phone. The interface supports multiple languages, including English, Japanese, Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese.

The DX5 II can be used not only as a headphone amplifier, but also as a preamplifier. In preamp mode, the output volume of the device can be adjusted, allowing it to connect directly to active speakers or a power amplifier.
