At the heart of the unit is Denafrips’ proprietary streamer module, built around a quad-core ARM Cortex processor and an operating system specifically optimised for audio playback, minimising the impact of background processes on the stability of the digital data stream.

FPGA-based FIFO buffering and reclocking play an important role in digital signal processing. The FIFO buffer compensates for timing variations in the data stream, after which the system resynchronises the signal to reduce the effects of jitter. This is complemented by galvanic isolation using optocouplers, which helps prevent electrical noise or ground loops from reaching the next component in the digital signal chain.

The ARCAS uses a selected OCXO (Oven-Controlled Crystal Oscillator), which provides significantly greater frequency stability than conventional crystal clocks.

The unit also offers two external master clock inputs, allowing compatible external clock generators to be connected. This enables the streamer to use a more precise external clock reference, which may further improve digital signal timing.

A stable, low-noise power supply is one of the fundamental requirements for reliable digital electronics. To achieve this, the ARCAS uses a shielded 80 VA O-Core transformer manufactured with UP-OCC copper.

The transformer is paired with a multistage linear power supply featuring a high-current design, low noise and minimal residual ripple. The streamer module uses dedicated low-noise voltage regulators and fast-transient-response power circuits, contributing to the stable operation of the sensitive digital circuitry.

The ARCAS provides extensive digital connectivity, making it easy to integrate with a variety of D/A converters.

The unit offers two I²S and two AES/EBU digital outputs, providing considerable flexibility when building more complex audio systems.

The ARCAS features a robust, fully anodised aluminium enclosure that not only provides an elegant appearance but also offers mechanical stability and electromagnetic shielding, while its precision machining complements the clean design language of Denafrips products.
