The Campfire Audio Chimera is an exceptionally complex wired in-ear monitor that brings together several advanced solutions from modern earphone design in one carefully engineered system. The model uses a nine-driver quad-brid architecture, combining four different sound-generating principles: bone conduction, dynamic, balanced armature, and electrostatic technologies.

Nine-driver quad-brid architecture

The internal architecture of the Chimera is built around nine individual drivers. The system includes a 10 mm bone conduction bass driver, a 10 mm True Glass dynamic bass / lower-midrange driver, one dual-diaphragm mid-frequency balanced armature, two high-frequency balanced armatures, and four electrostatic super-tweeters.

The different driver types bring distinct strengths to the sound. The dynamic driver provides natural body and air movement, the bone conduction unit supports the physical sensation of the bass range, the balanced armature drivers add speed and detail, while the electrostatic super-tweeters handle the finest upper-frequency details and decays. Chimera is therefore not built around the character of a single technology, but around the coordinated performance of multiple specialized units.

Dual-diaphragm balanced armature midrange

The midrange is handled by a dual-diaphragm balanced armature driver. This design is intended to pair the speed and resolving capability of balanced armature technology with a fuller and more natural tone.

The midrange is one of the most sensitive areas of music reproduction: it carries vocal character, instrumental body, plucked strings, bowed instruments, and a significant portion of fine harmonics. In this range, Chimera does not aim only for analytical precision, but also builds a denser and richer texture into the sound. This gives the system musical continuity between the weight of the bass range and the detail of the high frequencies.

Bone conduction bass driver

The 10 mm bone conduction bass driver is one of Chimera's defining technical elements. Unlike conventional drivers, it does not transmit low-frequency energy only through the air, but also uses the earphone shell structure as part of the transmission path. Its purpose is to make the bass range not only audible, but also more physically perceptible.

The bone conduction driver is integrated into a dedicated internal pocket within the magnesium shell. This structural solution increases surface contact, allowing more efficient mechanical transmission. In this application, the magnesium shell is not merely an outer enclosure, but an active part of the acoustic system, contributing to the transfer of low-frequency energy.

Acoustic pathways and internal tuning

In an IEM this complex, the number of drivers alone is not enough. Sound quality is determined by how the individual drivers interact, which acoustic pathways carry the sound toward the nozzle, and what damping, filtering, and internal chamber volumes shape the final result.

Chimera's internal acoustic design supports coherent operation between the drivers. The “Master Track” final tuning damper built into the nozzle performs the last stage of output-side refinement. This solution helps arrange the frequency ranges coming from different driver groups into a more unified sonic picture.

The hybrid vintage / ceramic capacitor system is also part of the internal tuning architecture. Its role is to support the transitions between driver groups and bind the frequency ranges together. This is the kind of detail that cannot be seen from the outside, but can play an important role in the character of a serious multi-driver IEM.

Sound and character

Chimera's sonic foundation is built on the balance between physical presence, resolving detail, and spatial order. The bone conduction bass driver and the True Glass dynamic driver work together to target a bass range that extends deeply while retaining weight, texture, and control.

The midrange receives a detailed yet fuller tonal character through the dual-diaphragm balanced armature driver. This helps vocals and acoustic instruments avoid sounding thin or overly technical. The treble range is built by the two BA drivers and four electrostatic super-tweeters together, contributing to fine detail, decays, and spatial perception.

Based on its architecture, Chimera's character is not simply powerful, but layered and precise. The lows provide a physical foundation, the midrange draws the musical body, and the highs add air, light, and fine details. Brass nozzle and fine mechanical details

The machined brass nozzle provides a durable connection point for ear tips. This is also important in practical use, since changing ear tips is part of fine-tuning comfort, isolation, and sound in an IEM. The use of brass provides a stable and refined long-term solution.

The nozzle is complemented by a brass mesh protective grille. The shell structure is reinforced with custom brass “black widow” fasteners, which are not only visual details but also contribute to the mechanical stability of the construction. From this perspective, Chimera is not merely an electronic product, but a precision object in which even the smallest parts contribute to the overall sense of quality.

Standard 0.78 mm 2-pin connection

Chimera uses a standard 0.78 mm 2-pin connector with a recessed installation. This design provides a more stable mechanical fit while preserving the advantages of a replaceable cable.

The recessed connector is especially important in a higher-end IEM, because cable changes and everyday use can place significant stress on the connection point. The more secure installation reduces the chance of accidental movement and provides a cleaner, safer connection between the earphone and the cable.

Ear tips and accessories

Chimera's accessory package includes multiple ear tip types so fit, comfort, and passive isolation can be fine-tuned. The package includes High & Clear traction silicone, standard silicone, and Marshmallow foam ear tips, each in S, M, and L sizes.

Choosing the right ear tip is not merely a comfort issue. Fit can influence the perceived bass response, treble openness, and attenuation of external noise. The right ear tip is a practical part of Chimera's tuning, which makes the included range of options a valuable part of the package.

Hand assembly and individual fine-tuning

Chimera's first production run is hand-assembled, individually fine-tuned, and matched. This is especially important in a multi-driver IEM, where channel matching, driver integration, and internal acoustic tuning directly affect imaging, focus, and overall coherence.
