At the heart of the BIC500 is a balanced isolation transformer. It electrically isolates the connected audio equipment from the direct mains connection while dividing the output voltage into two symmetrical legs relative to the grounded centre tap.

This design helps reduce common-mode noise and other electrical interference carried by the mains supply. The symmetrical arrangement of the two active legs allows in-phase noise components to partially cancel each other out, reducing the amount of interference reaching the power supplies of the connected equipment.

Inside the Denafrips BIC500 is a toroidal transformer developed specifically for audio applications. The toroidal design provides high efficiency, low stray magnetic fields and effective power transfer.

The transformer windings use Teflon-coated pure copper conductors, while the assembly is enclosed by a copper shield. This construction helps reduce electromagnetic interference and noise transmitted through the transformer, while supporting stable, low-noise operation.

The balanced isolation stage is complemented by built-in mains filters. These are designed to reduce high-frequency interference carried through the electrical network, which may be introduced by switching power supplies, computers, household appliances and wireless devices.

The BIC500 also includes surge protection and features a fused IEC power inlet. The fuse disconnects the circuit in the event of an overload or abnormal operation, while the surge protection helps reduce the effects of short-duration voltage spikes.

The BIC500 is primarily intended for equipment whose operation may be sensitive to mains noise. This may include network players, digital sources, DDCs, DACs, preamplifiers and other low-level audio electronics.

When connecting higher-powered amplifiers, both continuous power consumption and the current surge at switch-on must be taken into account. The BIC500 can support a maximum total load of 500 VA, so the power requirements of the equipment should be checked before connecting a high-consumption power amplifier.
