Fully balanced Class A headphone amplifier
The Musician Audio Andromeda is a fully balanced, Class A desktop headphone amplifier designed to provide a high-resolution, low-distortion audio signal path. The short signal path, balanced channel design, and Class A operation result in a stable, linear amplification character with extremely low distortion levels.
The design aims to preserve signal integrity across the entire volume range while ensuring that micro-dynamic details are not lost.
The Andromeda features strong driving capability, enabling stable operation with headphones in the 15–600 Ohm impedance range. This range covers most professional and high-end headphone designs, including high-impedance dynamic models.
Output power is 3.8 W (32 Ohm load, 1 kHz, 1% THD) and 350 mW (600 Ohm load), providing sufficient headroom even for high dynamic demand headphones. Stable current delivery is especially important for controlled bass and distortion-free peaks.
The fully balanced topology is based on physical and electrical channel separation, reducing crosstalk and improving spatial imaging. The short signal path and wide-bandwidth circuit design ensure precise signal transmission.
Class A operation provides a constant operating point, minimizing switching distortion and resulting in a more natural and uniform amplification character.
The device features a balanced XLR input, enabling integration into professional audio chains.
The output section includes 3-pin XLR, 4-pin XLR, and 6.35 mm headphone outputs, supporting multiple headphone cabling standards. This ensures flexible integration across different audio systems.
A 131 dB signal-to-noise ratio (balanced) provides an extremely clean background, enabling fine detail and spatial information to emerge. The A-weighted 3 uV noise level results in exceptionally low noise floor performance.
A 0.00079% THD+N value indicates very low harmonic distortion, contributing to a neutral and transparent amplification character. The 99 dB resolution ensures stable dynamic reproduction.
The device uses an O-type transformer with a monocrystalline copper core, supporting stable power delivery and extended dynamic range. The design focuses on low-loss energy transfer and minimized background noise.
Automatic AC115V / AC230V voltage switching enables global use, while the linear power architecture ensures fast recovery time and low noise operation.
The sound of the Andromeda is defined by its technical parameters: low distortion, high dynamics, and stable current delivery. The combination of fully balanced architecture and Class A operation results in a clean, controlled, and layered soundstage.
The bass range is tight and well controlled, the midrange is linear and distortion-free, while the treble is detailed but not sharp. Spatial imaging provides stable separation and precise positioning.
The heat generated by Class A operation is managed by an integrated aluminum heatsink, ensuring stable operation even under long-term load. Efficient heat dissipation contributes to consistent performance.
The solid aluminum chassis provides mechanical stability and electromagnetic shielding, reducing the impact of external interference on the signal path.
The front panel standby/operation switch and status LED provide clear and simple operational feedback. Red and blue indicators distinguish standby and active states.
The Alps potentiometer volume control provides precise mechanical adjustment and accurate channel balance, ensuring stable operation even at low signal levels.
