The Silent Pound Challenger II is a 3.5-way passive floorstanding loudspeaker designed for high-quality stereo systems in medium-sized and large rooms. Its acoustic concept centres on controlled directivity across the entire frequency range.

The system directs more useful sound energy towards the listener while reducing the amount reaching the side walls, floor and ceiling. The result is clearer spatial imaging, more accurate tonal balance and sound that is less dependent on the acoustic characteristics of the room.

The drivers, enclosure, waveguide and crossover operate as a unified acoustic system. The dipole low-frequency section, midrange chamber and modelled high-frequency waveguide work together to reduce unnecessary room excitation.

The directivity of conventional loudspeakers often changes considerably with frequency. They radiate more broadly in some frequency ranges and more narrowly in others, causing different parts of the music to reach the room’s boundaries in varying proportions.

The Challenger II acoustic system is engineered to maintain more consistent directivity from the bass through the midrange and into the high frequencies. Reducing lateral energy limits early side-wall reflections, making the sound less dependent on wall distances, the listening position and the room’s surfaces.

A more balanced relationship between direct and reflected sound enables a more stable stereo soundstage, more precise localisation and a more natural tonal balance.

The Challenger II uses two 300 mm woofers in a dipole, gradient-type acoustic system. Unlike conventional sealed or bass-reflex loudspeakers, this configuration radiates less low-frequency energy laterally and therefore excites the room modes to a lesser extent.

Controlling directivity in the bass range is particularly difficult because of the long wavelengths involved. Unlike large horns or extensive driver arrays, the gradient system controls low-frequency radiation in a form that can be integrated into a domestic environment.

The system can approach the theoretical directivity index of dipole operation—approximately 4.8 dB—and may reduce the total low-frequency acoustic energy entering the room to roughly one-third of that produced by a conventional sealed loudspeaker.

The midrange carries vocals, much of the character of musical instruments, articulation and spatial information. It is also the range in which early reflections from the walls, floor and ceiling can quickly reduce focus and localisation accuracy.

Silent Pound therefore treats the two 160 mm mid-bass drivers and their patent-pending chamber as a single acoustic system. The design maintains controlled radiation throughout the critical frequency range and creates a continuous transition between the dipole bass section and the high-frequency waveguide.

The professional-grade drivers combine powerful motor systems with effective cooling for substantial power handling. Durable fabric surrounds support controlled mechanical behaviour over the long term.

The high-frequency system continues the directivity strategy established by the low- and mid-frequency sections. The objective is not simply to extend treble reproduction, but to integrate dispersion smoothly and predictably across the entire frequency range.

The 25.4 mm compression tweeter is mounted in a compact, mathematically modelled waveguide. Its geometry is optimised to match the directivity of the midrange section, helping to maintain more precise integration through the crossover region.

Integrated into the rigid MDF front baffle, the waveguide supports more stable spatial imaging, more consistent radiation and reduced unnecessary interaction with the room.

The Challenger II passive crossover does more than distribute the signal between the drivers: it is an integral part of the system’s controlled-directivity design. It determines how the low-, mid- and high-frequency sections combine into one continuous radiation pattern.

Carefully selected audiophile-grade capacitors and inductors preserve detail, transient behaviour and tonal balance. The filter network works together with the natural acoustic behaviour of each driver to shape the final crossover response.

The crossover is displayed behind a tempered-glass window. The glass protects the components while making the engineering itself part of the Challenger II’s visual design.

The Challenger II is built around a CNC-formed steel support structure. Its rigidity reduces unwanted mechanical movement during operation, limiting the extent to which enclosure resonances can colour the sound.

The damped sandwich construction combines MDF and steel to make use of their different mechanical properties. Steel provides rigidity, while MDF helps damp structural vibration.

A 10 mm-thick steel base provides stable support for the 60 kg loudspeaker. Its high mass and rigid construction are particularly important for controlling the reaction forces generated by the two 300 mm woofers.

The removable fabric-covered rear frame neatly conceals the open construction without restricting the airflow required for the dipole system to operate.

Neodymium magnets hold the frame in place, allowing it to be removed without tools. The secure magnetic attachment keeps the structural element firmly positioned during use.

This solution combines the open acoustic architecture with a refined appearance suited to domestic interiors.

The powder-coated steel feet provide stable support and connect to the floor through integrated Soundcare spikes. Their floor-friendly design can be used without separate protective discs.

The adjustable tilt angle allows precise alignment of the loudspeaker’s listening axis. This helps direct the mid- and high-frequency system correctly at different listening distances and seating heights.

The gold-plated loudspeaker terminals accept both banana plugs and spade connectors. A secure mechanical connection and low contact resistance provide reliable long-term signal transmission.

The gold-plated contact surface resists oxidation and corrosion, preserving its electrical properties through repeated cable changes and extended use.

The Challenger II’s assertive, architectural appearance follows directly from its acoustic and mechanical construction. Its form is not merely decorative: the steel frame, front baffle, open bass section and waveguide all contribute to the system’s performance.

The powder-coated steel frame can be paired with either a painted MDF or solid oak front panel. The tempered-glass crossover cover reveals the internal engineering details while protecting the components.

The handcrafted loudspeaker is also available in custom RAL colours, allowing its appearance to be tailored to the interior and overall design concept.
