The Pontus 15TH features a true, fully balanced R-2R resistor-ladder DAC architecture. The left and right channels each have an independent signal-processing unit controlled by a dedicated high-speed CPLD. Each channel uses four precision R-2R resistor networks with a tolerance of 0.005%, enabling exceptionally accurate digital-to-analogue conversion.

One of the most important advantages of R-2R technology is its highly linear conversion of digital signals. High-precision resistors ensure minimal distortion and low noise, while the symmetrical channel design contributes to accurate stereo imaging and stable spatial reproduction.

Data received through the digital inputs is always processed through a FIFO buffer and then stabilised by the device’s own high-precision LPNO crystal oscillators. This significantly reduces dependence on the clock quality of the source device.

Clock stabilisation effectively reduces the impact of jitter, maintaining more accurate digital signal timing. This results in more stable digital data transmission and a more precise analogue output signal, while the original sampling frequency remains unchanged.

One of the Pontus 15TH’s most important design elements is its linear power supply, housed in a separate chamber. The DAC circuitry and power supply are also physically isolated from each other using a box-in-box construction that effectively reduces electromagnetic interaction.

The power supply has its own 1.5 mm-thick metal-alloy enclosure for additional shielding. The digital and analogue sections are powered by separate O-Core transformers, complemented by low-ESR, long-life reservoir capacitors and multi-stage super-linear voltage regulation. The result is a stable, low-ripple power supply that provides a favourable operating environment for sensitive analogue circuitry.

The device’s mechanical design serves more than an aesthetic purpose. Its robust metal enclosure also helps reduce vibrations and provides protection against electromagnetic interference.

The use of separate internal chambers reduces the amount of interference generated by the power supply that reaches the digital and analogue signal-processing circuits. This construction ensures stable operation and consistent performance over the long term.
