When designing the Bloom, Lithuanian manufacturer Silent Pound focused not only on frequency response and bass extension, but also on how sound energy is distributed throughout the room. Its controlled directivity is intended to increase the proportion of direct sound reaching the listening position while reducing the effect of early reflections from the walls, floor and ceiling.

The three-way passive system combines a coaxial mid-high driver with two large woofers in a dipole configuration. Its directional acoustic design, rigid steel structure and substantial radiating area deliver stable stereo imaging, controlled bass and clearly resolved detail.

The Bloom’s compact, sculptural form is not merely a visual feature: it is an integral part of the loudspeaker’s acoustic performance.

The directivity of conventional loudspeakers often changes considerably with frequency. They radiate more broadly in some frequency ranges and more narrowly in others, causing different parts of the music to reach the room’s boundaries in varying proportions.

The Bloom’s acoustic system is designed to maintain more consistent directivity from the bass through the midrange and into the high frequencies. Reducing lateral energy limits early side-wall reflections, making the sound less dependent on the size of the room, the distance from the walls and the materials of its surfaces.

The aim is not to create an artificially narrow or clinical presentation. A more balanced relationship between direct and reflected sound enables a more stable stereo soundstage and more precise localisation.

The Bloom uses two 300 mm woofers in a dipole, gradient-type acoustic system. Unlike conventional sealed or bass-reflex loudspeakers, this configuration radiates less low-frequency energy laterally and therefore excites the room modes to a lesser extent.

Controlling directivity in the bass range is particularly difficult because of the long wavelengths involved. Unlike large horns or extensive driver arrays, the Bloom’s gradient system controls low-frequency radiation in a form that can be integrated into a domestic environment.

According to Silent Pound’s calculations, the system can approach the theoretical directivity index of dipole operation—approximately 4.8 dB—and may reduce the low-frequency acoustic energy reaching unwanted areas of the room to roughly one-third of that produced by a conventional sealed loudspeaker.

One of the Bloom’s most interesting technical features is the patent-pending acoustic chamber located behind the midrange driver. Instead of simply absorbing or completely isolating the sound energy generated behind the diaphragm, it directs part of that energy forwards through carefully defined openings.

The geometry of the chamber and the acoustic impedance of its openings allow the rear wave to interact constructively with the forward radiation at specific frequencies and angles. This is particularly important between 300 and 1700 Hz, where conventional waveguides and horns would already need to be substantial in size.

The system controls midrange radiation and the phase relationship between the front and rear waves, while potentially reducing the acoustic pressure load acting on the diaphragm.

The most important details in the music can remain focused before room reflections have the opportunity to blur them.

The midrange carries vocals, much of the character of musical instruments, articulation and spatial information. It is also the range in which early reflections from the walls, floor and ceiling can quickly reduce focus and localisation accuracy.

Silent Pound therefore treats the midrange driver and its enclosure as a single acoustic system. The design maintains controlled radiation throughout the critical frequency range and creates a continuous transition between the dipole bass section and the high-frequency system.

The Bloom’s midrange and high frequencies are reproduced by a 200 mm coaxial driver. The midrange and treble radiate from almost the same geometric axis, which can reduce interference caused by the physical separation of conventional drivers, particularly in the vertical plane.

The professional-grade drivers feature powerful motor systems and high thermal power handling. The midrange driver’s impregnated fabric surround provides durable and controlled mechanical behaviour.

Substantial sound pressure levels can be produced with relatively little diaphragm excursion, contributing to a dynamic and controlled presentation.

The high-frequency system continues the directivity strategy established by the low- and mid-frequency sections. The objective is not simply to extend treble reproduction, but to integrate radiation smoothly and predictably across the entire frequency range.

The compression tweeter is positioned at the centre of the 200 mm coaxial driver. Because the midrange and high-frequency sound originate from the same acoustic centre, phase alignment can remain more precise through the crossover region.

The result can be more stable spatial imaging, more coherent timing and a smoother directivity transition between the midrange and treble.

The Bloom’s passive crossover does more than distribute the signal between the drivers: it is also an integral part of the system’s controlled-directivity design.

Its asymmetrical third- and fourth-order filtering strategy allows each driver to operate within its most suitable frequency range. The electrical filter slopes were developed in conjunction with the natural acoustic roll-off of the drivers and their respective enclosures.

This enables more precise final acoustic slopes, smoother crossover regions and more balanced radiation. Built from audiophile-grade components, the crossover is displayed beneath protective glass.

The Bloom is not built around a conventional MDF or plywood enclosure. Its main structural elements are made from CNC-formed steel with a finely textured powder-coated finish.

An 8 mm-thick steel plate forms the base of the loudspeaker, providing substantial mass and mechanical stability. A bonded wooden insert inside the stand helps damp structural vibration.

This high rigidity is particularly important because of the two 300 mm woofers. The reaction forces generated by the moving diaphragms can excite the supporting structure, but the stable steel frame reduces the development of mechanical resonances and unwanted secondary sound radiation.

SOLID OAK

Solid oak brings warmth, depth and natural variation to the Bloom’s architectural form. Subtle differences in grain and tone give every pair of loudspeakers a distinctive appearance.

The natural material visually balances the technical character of the steel frame, allowing the Bloom to complement both modern and traditional interiors.

FINELY TEXTURED POWDER-COATED STEEL

Steel defines not only the loudspeaker’s mechanical foundation but also the Bloom’s precise, distinctive outline. The rigid structure provides stable support for the large drivers and reduces unwanted mechanical movement.

The finely textured powder coating creates a uniform, understated surface while improving the steel components’ resistance to the effects of everyday use.

ALCANTARA FINISH

Alcantara provides a softer tactile surface and a visually more refined alternative for selected areas of the Bloom. Its texture softens the strict lines of the steel structure and gives the loudspeaker a more individual appearance.

The Alcantara finish available for the Bloom can be coordinated with different interiors and individual design concepts while retaining the loudspeaker’s consistent visual identity.
