A FOCUSED BALANCED AUDIO CHAIN

The TC44 PRO E2 is not a general-purpose adapter combining several output types. It is a DAC and amplifier designed specifically around the 4.4mm balanced headphone standard. It converts the incoming digital data into analogue audio and routes it through separate amplification stages for the two channels before delivering it to the Pentaconn output.

Its design follows a simple and clearly defined signal path: digital source, USB DAC, balanced amplification and 4.4mm headphone output. The unit does not include a 3.5mm single-ended headphone socket, so the connected cable must be terminated in a 4.4mm Pentaconn plug.

DUAL CS43131 DACS AND INDEPENDENT AMPLIFICATION STAGES

Digital conversion is handled by two Cirrus Logic CS43131 DAC chips, while the amplifier stage uses two independent ES9603Q operational amplifiers. This dual-channel architecture is matched to the 4.4mm balanced output, retaining separate signal paths for the left and right channels throughout the device.

According to the manufacturer’s specification, output power reaches up to 250mW per channel into a 32-ohm load. The TC44 PRO E2 uses adaptive output matching for loads between 16 and 250 ohms, allowing it to accommodate balanced headphones and in-ear monitors with differing impedance characteristics.

HIGH-RESOLUTION PCM AND NATIVE DSD PLAYBACK

Over USB audio, the TC44 PRO E2 supports PCM music files up to 32-bit/384kHz and native DSD256 decoding. The formats available in practice also depend on the connected phone, tablet or computer, the playback app and the USB audio support of the operating system.

The published specification lists a signal-to-noise ratio above 125dB, a dynamic range above 120dB and THD+N below 0.0004% at 1kHz. These measurements describe the behaviour of the conversion and amplification chain, while the final listening result is shaped by the source material, headphones and their system integration.

SOURCE CONNECTION AND SYSTEM COMPATIBILITY

The TC44 PRO E2 is available with USB-C and Lightning source-side connectors. The selected version determines the connection to the digital source, while the headphone side always uses a 4.4mm balanced Pentaconn socket.

MATERIALS AND PORTABLE DESIGN

The TC44 PRO E2 combines an aluminium alloy body, a short braided interconnect and a shielded pure-silver decoding cable. This construction keeps the source connection, digital conversion and headphone output together in a single portable component.

The device body measures 60 × 20 × 10mm excluding the connectors and weighs approximately 20.7g. Its leather lanyard is intended to make the unit easier to carry and handle, while the short cable reduces excess loops beside a phone or portable player.
