The wooden driver housing, designed with a large internal volume, plays an important role in the sound character of the HE-R10D. This design gives the 50 mm dynamic driver more air and freer room to move, helping the bass range sound fuller.

The closed-back construction creates a more controlled soundfield, while the size of the driver housing helps prevent the presentation from becoming overly closed-in.

The HiFiMAN Topology Diaphragm features a special nanoparticle coating that helps control diaphragm movement with greater precision. This results in cleaner, more natural frequency response and a more detailed treble range, while the dynamic driver retains its full-bodied, musical character.

The 15 Hz to 35 kHz frequency range covers a wide bandwidth, allowing the headphone to deliver nuanced sound from deeper fundamentals to finer upper-range details.

HiFiMAN’s Topology Diaphragm technology is based on Dr. Fang Bian’s research in nanotechnology. The concept is that the special nanoparticle coating applied to the diaphragm surface influences the diaphragm’s vibration behavior not only through its material properties, but also through its pattern and thickness.

This solution is designed to fine-tune frequency response, especially in terms of treble clarity and detail. In the HE-R10D, the Topology Diaphragm complements the full-bodied, natural character of the large dynamic driver with a more controlled, airier upper range.

As a closed-back headphone, the HE-R10D creates a denser, more intimate soundstage than its open-back counterparts. Instruments are positioned closer to the listener, and the stage is more focused and direct rather than widely stretched. This character pairs especially well with the headphone’s full-bodied, musical tuning, keeping the presentation coherent, substantial and atmospheric.

Depth and layering are clearly perceptible, especially when used with a clean, dynamic source. Stereo positioning is not distinctly analytical in nature, instead providing a more natural arrangement in which the overall musical picture takes priority over precisely highlighted instrument locations.

With a 60 ohm impedance and 103 dB sensitivity, the HE-R10D is not considered a difficult headphone to drive, yet it rewards a clean, dynamic and stable source. Electronics that sound too dark or too soft may further emphasize the headphone’s warmer side, while a clean, well-controlled headphone amplifier can better reveal its detail, stage depth and treble freshness.

The 3.5 mm balanced socket positioned on the left side of the headphone provides simple, tidy cabling and makes it easier to integrate the model into dedicated audio systems. Alongside the included 1.5 m headphone cable with 3.5 mm jack connection, the 3.5 mm to 6.35 mm jack adapter further expands usability, allowing the HE-R10D to be used more flexibly with portable players, DAC/AMP units and desktop headphone amplifiers.
