The YBA VIBE P1 is the first model in the French high-end brand's new VIBE series, a palm-sized portable DAC and headphone amplifier weighing just 120 g. Its aluminium body is made recognisable by a black mirrored-glass front and YBA's signature "smile window" display. Its deliberately wired design focuses on the signal path and the sound.

At the heart of the sound works a 19+5 bit R2R DAC developed with Shanling, built on 126 precision resistors for a natural, full and musical presentation, while NOS and OS modes let you match the sound character to your headphones. With external power, the amplifier delivers up to 1330 mW from the balanced output, giving secure control from sensitive IEMs to serious headphones. It accepts signals over USB and coaxial, the parametric EQ tailors the sound, and the 2750 mAh battery gives up to 11 hours of music.

The YBA VIBE P1 condenses YBA's tuning and high-end thinking into a device that fits in a pocket. It offers the natural, full sound of an R2R design in a slim, refined body that echoes the form language of the Signature and Genesis models.

NEW VIBE SERIES · PORTABLE R2R DAC AND HEADPHONE AMPLIFIER

YBA VIBE P1

The YBA VIBE P1 is the first model in the French high-end brand's new VIBE series: a palm-sized, 120 g portable DAC and headphone amplifier. It is built around a proprietary 19+5 bit R2R DAC, paired with an amplifier that delivers up to 1330 mW into 32 Ω from its balanced output with external power. An aluminium body and a black mirrored-glass front define its look.

FRENCH HIGH-END SOUND IN THE PALM OF YOUR HAND

The YBA VIBE P1 condenses French high-end tuning into a 120 g body of aluminium and mirrored glass. As a portable R2R DAC and headphone amplifier, it lifts mobile sources to the level of hi-fi components: a more natural, fuller and more detailed sound with the brand's distinctive musical character.

At its heart sits a 19+5 bit R2R DAC with 126 thin-film resistors, developed together with Shanling, followed by a 2 × ADA4610 and 4 × BUF634A amplifier that delivers 1330 mW into 32 Ω from the 4.4 mm balanced output with external power. It accepts PCM 768 kHz / 32 bit and DSD512 over USB and PCM 192 kHz / 24 bit and DSD64 over coaxial, and the deliberately wired signal path serves sound quality entirely.

WHO IT IS RECOMMENDED FOR

The P1 brings high-end listening into everyday mobile and desktop use: the sound of a phone, laptop or player moves to a more refined, more musical level, with a device that fits in a pocket.

For the audiophile, the P1 is a portable R2R source and a powerful balanced amplifier in one: the 4.4 mm output delivers 1330 mW into 32 Ω, with an output impedance of 0.33 Ω (3.5 mm) and 0.7 Ω (4.4 mm), so it suits everything from sensitive IEMs to harder-to-drive headphones, and its coaxial input pairs it with an existing CD player or streamer.

For phone listeners

For Hi-Res music and streaming, next to the phone or on its back. The P1 runs on its own battery and does not drain the phone.

For desk listeners

A small desktop DAC/amp over USB, for cleaner sound than the laptop's built-in output.

Next to a hi-fi system

With the coaxial input, an existing CD player or streamer can also be used for headphone listening.

For demanding headphones

The 4.4 mm balanced output delivers 1330 mW into 32 Ω with external power, so it also drives larger, more demanding headphones.

R2R DAC: 19+5 BIT, 126 PRECISION RESISTORS

The signal path of the YBA VIBE P1 — The P1 signal path from input to headphone output

The P1's sound is built on the natural, musical character of resistor-ladder (R2R) conversion, tuned by YBA to the brand's voicing. The sound character can also be shaped on the device, so it can be matched to the headphones and the music.

The R2R DAC developed together with Shanling has a 19+5 bit segmented architecture made of 126 high-precision thin-film resistors. NOS (non-oversampling) and OS (oversampling) modes provide two different sound signatures.

HEADPHONE AMPLIFIER: 2 × ADA4610 + 4 × BUF634A

Inside the YBA VIBE P1 — R2R DAC and dedicated headphone amplifier in a compact body

Behind the DAC works a dedicated, high-power headphone amplifier that gives secure control from sensitive earphones to serious, larger headphones. With external power the P1's reserves grow further.

The amplifier is built around two ADA4610 operational amplifiers and four BUF634A buffers, with low output impedance and high power. A charger connected to the second USB-C port switches the P1 to external power mode: the battery is not used and the 4.4 mm output delivers the full 1330 mW into 32 Ω.

DESIGN AND CONTROLS

The front of the YBA VIBE P1 — Black mirrored-glass front with the "smile window" display on top

The P1 has a clean, minimalist form: a titanium-coloured aluminium body, a black mirrored-glass front and the "smile window" display known from YBA's Signature series. Control rests on three physical buttons, simple and predictable.

The 2.23-inch, 200 × 480 colour display shows the sample rate, volume, gain and battery status, or an electronic VU meter. The buttons on the right (volume up, down, menu) also control the menu, where gain, the NOS/OS filter, channel balance and the EQ can be set.

CONNECTIVITY AND SETTINGS

As a USB DAC the P1 suits any modern phone, tablet or computer, and with its coaxial input it also fits next to hi-fi sources such as CD players and streamers. On most devices it works without drivers.

In USB DAC mode it accepts PCM up to 32 bit / 768 kHz and DSD512, over UAC 2.0 without drivers on macOS and Windows 10 and later, with a UAC 1.0 mode for older devices. The supplied RCA-to-USB-C cable adds a coaxial S/PDIF input for PCM 24 bit / 192 kHz and DSD64.

USB DAC mode

PCM up to 32 bit / 768 kHz and DSD512. Over UAC 2.0 it works without drivers on macOS and Windows 10 and later.

Coaxial input

With the supplied cable, PCM up to 24 bit / 192 kHz and DSD64. The input is selected in the menu.

UAC 1.0 mode

A UAC 1.0 setting is available for older devices and game consoles.

iOS devices with a USB-C port connect directly with any USB-C data cable; older Lightning devices need a dedicated cable that supports USB DACs. Some Android devices may have recognition issues.

Parametric EQ

The built-in parametric EQ is for fine-tuning the sound: five ready profiles and three custom saves are available, so the sound can be adapted to the headphones and listening habits.

The parametric EQ can be switched off, used with five presets or three custom saves, and set from a browser or on Android with the Eddict Player app, while gain, the NOS/OS filter and channel balance are also available on the device.

From a browser

In UAC 2.0 mode the PEQ can be set in the Chrome browser at dsptuner.com/connect by following the on-screen instructions.

With the Eddict Player app

On Android the app offers the same settings with bit-perfect playback, and firmware updates go through it as well. The iOS app does not offer these settings due to Apple restrictions.

BATTERY AND EXTERNAL POWER

The P1 runs on its own battery, so it does not load the source, yet it offers up to 11 hours of listening. With external power the output rises further, giving extra headroom for more demanding headphones.

The 2750 mAh battery gives up to 11 hours on the single-ended output and up to 9.5 hours on the balanced output, charging over USB-C. When a charger is connected it switches to external power mode: it runs directly from the charger, output power increases, and the battery keeps charging.

Up to 11 hoursPlayback on the 3.5 mm output, 9.5 hours on the 4.4 mm output.

External power modeWith a charger connected, the 4.4 mm output rises to 1330 mW into 32 Ω.

Light load on the sourceThe phone or computer is not noticeably drained.

No charger is included. The manufacturer recommends a 5 V / 2 A USB charger. The P1 is not MagSafe compatible; a separately sold PU leather case protects it from scratches.

ON THE SOUND - FROM THE ERJI FORUM REVIEW

A reviewer on the Chinese audio forum ERJI wrote the following about the P1. The quotes are given in free translation.

„

Soundstage

"The sound is big but not hollow: the stage is wide and deep, yet filled with sonic elements, a real and full space."

„

Bass and dynamics

"The power of the bass and dynamics is astonishing, hardly what you would expect from a device in this price class."

„

Mids and highs

"The midrange is rich, full and finely imaged, and the treble is not sharp or piercing in the least, but clearly calm."

In summary

"I was surprised that such strength and calm could be achieved in such a small body. The P1 is essentially a soothing, 'healing' sound."

YBA AND THE VIBE SERIES

YBA has built French hi-fi since 1981, known for its musicality and craftsmanship. The VIBE series is the brand's fifth line, built around emotional, atmospheric listening.

VIBE is YBA's fifth series, alongside Signature, Passion, Genesis and Design, and its forms can vary. The P1's predecessor is the Design One, YBA's portable SACD/CD player, and it carries that direction further in an even smaller size, focused purely on the DAC and the amplifier.
